Another year over!
We have some video of the last flight which we hope to get online today, but for now, thanks for all the donations to help us reach our target.
As usual a special thanks to our Chat Room & Webcam friends from around the world.
Same time next year?
Thanks
The Simfest Team
As the ‘fly-tilla’ of aircraft takes the WorldFlight procession along to Melbourne, the main players of WorldFlight have diverted to Avalon to regroup for the final leg into Sydney.
Ralph Watson is in his rightful place as Captain of G-RBBJ with trusty steed F/O Mark Hastings by his side. As I write the landing gear is being retracted for a special finale into Sydney as is the custom at the end of World Flight each year, let’s just hope Ralph is as good as Chelsey ‘Sully’ Sullenberger should something not go to plan :)
It’s 02:30 in the morning London time. Mick and Benny are cruising at 36000 ft on route to Adelaide. Two more flights to go before we pop the champagne corks!
Gary and Ralph were cruising along between Thailand and Macao minding their own business when our antipodean cousins challenged them to fly properly (i.e. without Autopilot). Gary duly obliged but they spotted that the Autothrottle was still engaged. Another challenge and the Autothrottle was duly disengaged. Gary then hand flew the aircraft down to the approach into Macao when they challenged us again to shut down one engine. After a brief discussion, Ralph shut down number 2 engine and Gary landed on the centre line, with only speedbrakes deployed.
This superb display of airmanship was not reciprocated by the colonialists. In fact they had to go around and then nearly collided with us mid air as they climbed away from Macao for another try at landing. Yup, there are those that fly and those that try :-)
